The launch of the SVDK Katra station has made Vaishno Devi yatra dramatically smoother — you arrive directly in Katra, 1.5 km from the yatra start. Here is how to book the right train.

Direct Trains to Katra (SVDK)

Train From Travel Time Notes
Vande Bharat Express New Delhi (NDLS) ~8 hours Fastest; chair car
Shri Shakti AC Express New Delhi (NDLS) ~12 hours Overnight, all AC
Uttar Sampark Kranti New Delhi ~13 hours Overnight, mixed coaches
Sampark Kranti Exp Mumbai LTT ~30 hours Connects via Jammu
Akal Takhat Express Amritsar ~6 hours For Punjab pilgrims
Madurai-Katra Premium South India ~50 hours Seasonal

Trains to Jammu Tawi (Onward by Road)

If the Katra-direct train is full, take a Jammu Tawi train and use a 50-km road transfer (taxi ₹1,800 / shared cab ₹400 / JKSRTC bus ₹120). Major trains: Himgiri Exp, Swaraj Exp, Jhelum Exp.

Booking Tips

  • Book exactly 60 days in advance — Vande Bharat fills within minutes.
  • Use the IRCTC Tatkal window (10 AM AC, 11 AM Non-AC) if you missed the regular window.
  • For senior citizens, IRCTC offers lower berth preference automatically.
  • Premium Tatkal (no quota dispute) is available at higher fare.

Once You Arrive at SVDK

  • Pre-paid taxi counter at exit
  • Free SMVDSB shuttle to Niharika Yatri Niwas every 15 min
  • Locker room available — ₹50 per bag per day
  • Yatra Registration Counter inside the station building (24×7)
