The Vaishno Devi yatra has long been a dream for grandparents. The good news: the Shrine Board has built an excellent ecosystem to make the yatra possible for seniors — helicopters, wheelchair-friendly Tarakote Marg, battery vehicles, palki bearers and free medical posts.
Three Levels of Senior-Citizen Yatra
| Approach | For Whom | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Full helicopter: Katra ⇄ Sanjichhat ⇄ battery vehicle ⇄ Bhawan ⇄ Bhairon ropeway | Mobility-restricted, 70+ age | ₹3,660 helicopter + ₹600 battery + ₹100 ropeway = ~₹4,400 |
| Mixed: Battery vehicle (Tarakote Marg) + ponies for steep section | Walking ability up to 4 km | ~₹2,500 round trip |
| Palki (palanquin): 4 bearers carry you | Senior citizens with companion | ₹5,000 – 7,000 one way |
