Where Can You Stay on the Yatra?
Pilgrims have three layers of accommodation to choose from:
- SMVDSB Yatri Niwas (Katra) — large pilgrim-only complexes managed by the Shrine Board at the base camp.
- SMVDSB rooms en route & at Bhawan — dormitories and rooms at Adhkuwari, Sanjichhat and Bhawan.
- Private hotels in Katra — three-star to luxury options, walking distance to the bus stand and railway station.

Booking: Online via maavaishnodevi.org → “Accommodation” → choose property → date → guests → ID upload. Online booking opens 60 days in advance.
2. En-Route & Bhawan Accommodation
If you plan a 2-day yatra, you can break the journey at Adhkuwari, Sanjichhat or the Bhawan:

Bhawan rooms are heavily over-subscribed during Navratri and weekends. Book online; walk-ins are accepted only if any rooms remain after 8 PM allocation.

Katra has 400+ private hotels, from budget guesthouses to luxury resorts. Common clusters:
- Bus stand area: Budget hotels and guesthouses — ₹1,200 – ₹3,000
- Banganga area: Mid-range, easier access to yatra starting point — ₹2,500 – ₹5,500
- Domail to Tarakote road: 3-star and 4-star — ₹3,500 – ₹8,000
- Premium properties: Country Inn, Hotel Asia, Hotel Ramada Katra, Hotel Subhash, Hari Niwas — ₹6,000 – ₹15,000

Frequently Asked Questions
Are non-vegetarian food and alcohol allowed in Katra?
Katra is a designated holy town — non-vegetarian food, alcohol and tobacco sales are prohibited within the municipal limits. Hotels serve only sattvic vegetarian meals.
Can I book SMVDSB rooms on the same day?
Walk-in is allowed if rooms are available, but during Navratri and weekends most rooms are booked online weeks ahead. Best to pre-book.
Do hotels accept couples without a marriage certificate?
Most reputable hotels accept couples with matching IDs (same address) without a marriage certificate; some smaller guesthouses are stricter. Carry an Aadhaar / passport copy.
Is there free langar?
Yes, the SMVDSB runs free 24×7 bhojanalayas at Adhkuwari, Sanjichhat and Bhawan. Many private gurudwaras and ashrams in Katra also serve free meals.
