Why Take the Helicopter?
The Vaishno Devi helicopter service flies between the Katra helipad (~3,300 ft) and the Sanjichhat helipad (~6,200 ft) at the top of the steep section of the yatra. The 13-km uphill trek is reduced to an 8-minute flight followed by a 2.5-km gentle walk (or battery vehicle / pony) to the Bhawan. It is the preferred mode for senior citizens, families with infants and time-poor pilgrims who want to complete darshan within a day.
Operators & Aircraft
The Shrine Board has authorised multiple private operators to run shuttle services. As of the 2025–26 yatra calendar these include Global Vectra Helicorp, Pawan Hans and a few rotating private partners. All operators use Bell-407 or AS-350 / Eurocopter aircraft (6 passenger seats).

How to Book the Helicopter
- Open maavaishnodevi.org → Helicopter Booking.
- Register / log in with mobile + email.
- Select date (booking opens 60 days in advance), sector (one way / round trip) and number of passengers.
- Provide passenger details (name + age + ID number) — exact match with original ID required.
- Pay online via UPI, debit / credit card or net banking.
- Print the e-ticket. Report to the Katra helipad at least 60 minutes before slot.

Flights are weather-dependent. Heavy rain, low cloud, or strong winds suspend operations. If your flight is cancelled, the Shrine Board issues a full automatic refund within 7 working days.
Baggage Rules
- Each passenger can carry one cabin bag — maximum 5 kg.
- Sharp objects, gas lighters, full-spray cans and large power banks are not permitted.
- Cloak-room facility is available at both helipads.
What Happens After Landing at Sanjichhat?
From Sanjichhat helipad, the Bhawan is 2.5 km away. Options:
- Walk: 30–40 min, mostly downhill on a paved corridor.
- Battery vehicle: ₹100–150 one way; quick and barrier-free.
- Pony: ₹400–500 one way.
- Palki: ₹1,200 – 1,800 one way.
